Stepping away from the climatical cliff-edge

The spirit of ‘energy-descent-meets-energy-dissent’ took a major leap forward (or perhaps away from the cliff-edge) this summer, with the Camp for Climate Action. The Camp announced in the build-up its intention to share ideas and inspiration about how we can ‘live the solutions’, as well as a trifling intention to shut down neighbouring Drax power station, Europe’s largest emitter of CO2.

The October 30 release of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate
Change — a British government-commissioned report — has helped increase
the pressure on Australia and its fellow Kyoto renegade, the United
States, and keep the threat posed by the greenhouse effect on the front
pages of at least a section of the corporate press.

(Due to the event over-running, this speech was cut a little on the day.)

There is no planet B, so we need an economic plan B. We need to develop new economic systems because there is only one eco-system and it cannot survive the present free market economy.

On Monday, October 23rd 2006, at exactly 8 am, a dozen global warming
activists - some arriving on foot, some in a rented truck - converged
outside of Washington, D.C., and promptly occupied a main entrance to
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, one of the
nation's leading climate agencies.

DEC 3RD 2005 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION

This is the statement written jointly by members of London Rising Tide, and read out at the December 3rd 2005 rally outside the US Bombassy in London:

This day of action is undoubtedly the best supported and most international day of action on climate ever planned, which is an amazing achievement. Today’s a day to tell the world that we have had enough of being told that ‘the end could be nigh’ by scientists, only to see our leaders jamming their foot on the accelerator of a car that is already hurtling towards the cliff edge - whilst they shout ‘Trust me – I have your best interests at heart!’

And whilst today is a great achievement, maybe we should be asking ourselves some difficult questions, and re-examining our arguments and our tactics.

Airport occupation at Schipol, Netherlands

More traffic growth? More roads? Airport Expansion? You must be CHOKING! It's time to take ACTION!

Labout are backsliding on the victories of the 1990's roads protests, and many road schemes, dropped in the 1990s, are back on the road builders' agenda. Meanwhile the Government is also proposing large-scale airport expansion... and all in the same breath as talking about tackling climate change.

This backslide CAN and WILL be stopped by PEOPLE POWER.

We need to ORGANISE NOW!

The day before tomorrow

Brought to you by BP, Exxon, Shell, & governments of western countries.

The Day after Tomorrow is more science fiction than science fact, yet the danger of a climate crisis is very real, and we've got to take action right now to prevent it.

Bonn, Germany: COP6.5. Today in the final session of the latest round of climate talks, climate justice activists unfurled a banner which read “Trading in Pollution is not the Solution”. This was in response to the dependence upon market-based mechanisms in the latest agreements on the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.
